Start with blank piece of stiff drawing paper or board. No idea, no concept, no preplanned image to draw, just pen or pencil to paper. Most times, first couple of lines are straight lines but sometimes the hand creats some sort of swirl or curve. Now what? With eyes open but not concept to develop other than first curve needs another for balance or something, so added. Another curve added....wait, perhaps a head? Lines, curves added just for their position to existing lines and then, "Bang" I can "see" the head of a chicken. "Chicken"? No idea why but is there and so now intent to "flesh" it out a bit but not too much. "Just enough" is hard for a doodle or I think any sort of painting or drawing. When is it finished and more just becomes too much. Minimal is better than too much.
