"Amana SDZ20MPE Refrigerator - Location of Critical Parts"

Summary: to attempt to perform any sort of diagnostics and do-yourself (DIY) repair on any electrical device, you need the wiring schematic and the location of all critical parts.

Background:

The image below is from the Amana SZD20MPE user manual and does help you locate some compoments but does not give you any image of what these components actually look like.

Of most importance in this diagram is the locations of: the defrost timer; defrost heater; evaporator; freezer fan; compressor; compressor fan and freezer control.

What components look like:

Behind the cardboard panel over the bottom rear of the Amana SZD20MPE, you will find the compressor, the compressor fan and the run capacitor.

The compressor relay and overload sensor are mounted directly on the compressor under a black plastic "fence", which can be removed easily.

Behind the removable panel in the freezer compartment, you will find: the evaporator coils; the freezer fan, the defrost thermostat and the defrost heating elements.
