"BMW X5 - Flex Disk"
By Ron Stultz
5 June 2011
Summary: Between transmission and rear differential are 2 rubber compound flex disks. These disk, over time, begin to disintegrate causing heavy clunk sounds upon hard acceleration or car vibration. Had replaced by independent garage who had a lift. Did not want to be under car with tight quarters to replace myself.
Background:
BMW X5, 4.4i, model year 2000.
150,000 miles.
Heavy clunk noise at rapid acceleration from dead stop. Flex disk at transmission torn.
Because of mileage, had both flex disks and center bearing replaced at one time.
