"Samsung NP-145+ - Hardware Overview"
By Ron Stultz
Summary: the NP - N145+ does have a replicable SATA hard drive, a replicable BIOS battery, a replicable wireless module and a replicable cpu heatsink/fan all of which is accessible by removing the back cover.
Background:
Samsung NP-N145+.
Probably applicable to other Samsung "netbooks".
3 years old.
Would not turn on so time to take a look inside.
Hardware overview:
The Samsung NP-N145+ is a true personal computer (PC) although somewhat limited in memory, taking only one memory module.
The Samsung NP-N145+ has:
- A SATA hard drive.
- A WiFi module that could be replaced.
- A basic input, output system or BIOS battery that could be replaced.
- A motherboard similar to all that are in any PC.
- A copper-based cpu heatsink and fan assembly that can be replaced.
- Easily removed keyboard that can be replaced.
- Motherboard connectors for: SATA; liquid crystal display (LCD) and front panel light emitting diode (LED's). Samsung could have hardwired all these to motherboard but that would have made repair difficult.
- The Ethernet port, video graphics and sound capabilities are all built onto the motherboard and not replicable.
- The motherboard and all related are accessed by removing the bottom half of the NP-N145+ plastic case.
Thoughts:
The Samsung NP-N145+ is a decent enough netbook but does suffer from:
- Flawed motherboard mounted on/off side switch plastic cover. This switch cover is going to break sooner or later. Although easy enough to replace, for some this might be a real problem. The image below shows the slide switch plastic cover and highlighted in red is the prong on the cover that will break off sooner or later.
- Very limited processor and that coupled with limited memory makes the NP-N145+ a little on the slow side.
