"Marvin Wood Double Hung Windows - How to Tilt In for Cleaning or Removal"
By Ron Stultz
Summary: must squeeze vinyl track inward at window edge at top and pull window past track.
Background:
Marvin wood double hung windows and French sliding doors installed in house renovation in 1991.
Marvin will make service calls but most window repairs can be do it yourself (DIY)
Marvin does sell parts but they have made many changes to their window designs over the years so must be sure you order the correct part.
Tilt window in for cleaning:
To tilt inner window inward so you can easily clean the outside glass:
- unlock window and move up enough so it clears bottom sill.
- At top window edge, squeeze vinyl track inward while pulling window towards you.
- Once one side is beginning to move over top of the vinyl track, do the same squeeze on the other side of the window frame.
- With the top of the window beginning to move past the vinyl track continue to pull the window down towards you.
- Note the depending on size, the window can be quite heavy.
- Once you have window horizontal to floor, hold window in center while cleaning outer glass.
Removal:
To tilt the upper or outer window inward for cleaning, you will have to remove the lower window.
Marvin windows have a metal slide mounted on bottom edges at the bottom as shown below.
To remove a window, once it is clear of vinyl track, you lift up on one side and continue to lift until metal slide clears the channel in the vinyl track and lift the entire window, at an angle, out of the vinyl track.
Once again, the window can be quite heavy, so be careful.
